A new video of the Atlas humanoid showing off proves that its backflips nearly a year ago were just the beginning.
Yesterday, (Oct. 11) robotics company Boston Dynamics posted a new video on YouTube showcasing the robot's latest progress, carrying it past its prior agility goals in leaps and bounds - literally. Boston Dynamics points out that Atlas is using its whole body, this including the arms and torso, to perform the jumps. Atlas' computer vision helps it locate visible markers and find its footing, according to Boston Dynamics.
The last time we saw the humanoid robot, it had managed to flawless its running skills, and it managed to hop over logs even though it was a clumsy one.

"The Atlas hardware takes advantage of 3D printing to save weight and space, resulting in a remarkable compact robot with high strength-to-weight ratio and a dramatically large workspace", the company continued. Most humans can barely do a cartwheel, let alone a backflip. It's able to use its arms to lift, carry, and manipulate objects in its environment.
A look at the future: Videos from Boston Dynamics have circulated on the internet for months.
