Trump questions United Nations global warming report

UN report on global warming carries life-or-death warning No change in Qld after dire climate report

Leaders from countries such as Botswana and Namibia can not let-up on the global stage in pushing for nation states to make good on, and further improve, their pledges to cut greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Agreement.

In the Summary for Policy-Makers, the most widely read section in all IPCC reports, the report lists a set of "reasons for concern".

"There is a role for high-quality Australian coal and it's compatible with meeting Paris emissions reductions targets", Ian Macfarlane, council chief executive and a former Coalition energy minister.

The report highlights a number of climate change impacts that could be avoided by limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, for instance, by 2100, the global sea level rise would be 10cm lower than a 2 degrees Celsius cap.

The letter said that since the European Union budget funds programmes for energy, transport, agriculture, buildings, waste and global cooperation, it has "great potential" to support action on climate change.

The point is whether the human race will find the collective political and moral will to fight climate change. Any additional emissions will require removing Carbon dioxide from the air.

The report said rising temperatures will push millions of people in Africa into poverty and hunger unless governments take swift action.

Both Labor and the Greens attacked the Coalition government, signalling the likelihood that climate change will become a major issue at the next federal poll due by mid-2019.

Depending upon whether greenhouse gas emissions continue at current levels or rise, temperatures in the Southwest are projected to increase by 2.5° Fahrenheit over the next few decades, they wrote, and between 2.8° and 11.9° Fahrenheit by the late 21st century.

The event was jointly held by the MoNRE, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), with the participation of experts, managers, policymakers, scientists and businesspeople, among others.

Australia has some of the world's highest per capita rates of greenhouse gas pollution.

More than two decades before NASA scientist James Hansen testified about climate change before Congress in 1989, scientists told President Lyndon B. Johnson that the burning of fossil fuels was increasing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. It has said it has no intention of scaling back fossil fuel production because without coal, household power bills would soar. Under the Paris climate agreement, nations agreed in 2015 that they would take actions to limit global warming to 2°C while striving for the even tougher target of 1.5°C.

"But it has not been very easy to get support for carbon taxation and things like that because it is asking people in counties like ours to pay now for the benefit of those 50 years in the future as well as other parts of the world".

We are running out of time to prevent catastrophic effects of climate change from reshaping our world.

The findings of this new report are terrifying, to say the least, and if we do not act quickly to try and reverse some of the effects of climate change we could very well all be staring in the reality of a disaster movie.
