The No. 1 seed defeated Hercog 6-1, 6-2 on Wednesday to progress to the last eight.

Aryna Sabalenka still has an outside chance of making a WTA Finals debut this month and maintained her excellent form with a 6-1 6-3 defeat of Magda Linette.

Pliskova beat the Slovenian, who owns a 1-20 record against Top 20 players, for the fourth time in five meeting, with Hercog's only win coming at 2014 Beijing.

"I think I was quite good today", Pliskova told the press, after the match, the WTA website wrote.

Fourth seed Sabalenka, beaten by Maria Sharapova in the Tianjin final previous year, will come up against Timea Bacsinszky or Misaki Doi in the quarter-finals after breaking five times to cruise through.

Sabalenka a year ago made it to the final of the Tianjin Open, where she was defeated by Russia's Maria Sharapova. She also defeated Kenin en-route to that victory.

The world No.7's 50-minute win came after a powerful start and she claimed 80 percent of her first-serve points.

Sixth seed Petra Martic recovered from losing the first set to comeback and progress to the last eight with a 1-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory over China's Fangzhou Liu.
