The 41-year-old French World Cup victor, who had been working as an assistant coach for the Belgian national team, signed a contract through until June 2021.

Thierry Henry has been appointed as the new Monaco head coach, replacing Leonardo Jardim, who was sacked earlier this week.

Jardim led the club to Ligue 1 glory in the 2016-17 campaign, ending Paris Saint-Germain's stranglehold on the title, and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in the same season.

Monaco have yet to comment on the reports around Henry's apparently imminent appointment, but Henrichs admits that he would love to work under the former Barcelona, Arsenal and New York Red Bulls striker.

"Having started my football career with this great club, it seems like fate that I will now begin my managerial career here too".

Ampadu took up the coaching role at Arsenal in 2012 after making three first-team appearances for the club as a player between 1988 and 1991. He added: 'I was fortunate to receive some very attractive offers over the last few months but Monaco will also be close to my heart.

But Monaco's talented young squad has been decimated by sales since then, with stars including Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Thomas Lemar, Fabinho and Benjamin Mendy all departing.

He started his career at Monaco in 1994 under former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, before joining Juventus in 1999.

'Thierry is both aware of the task ahead and eager to start his new job. He will be joined by Joao Carlos Valado Tralhao, U23 coach of Benfica, and Patrick Kwame Ampadu, coach at the Arsenal Academy. He can count on our trust and all our support to bring a new dynamic to the team and carry out the mission'.
