Two spacewalks planned for later this month were off indefinitely.

-Russian crew to the International Space Station failed during its ascent Thursday (Oct. 11), sending its crew capsule falling back toward Earth in a ballistic re-entry, NASA officials said.

Hague and Ovchinin were shown being violently shaken in the vessel, and shortly thereafter the feed cut out - to be replaced with a look inside NASA's mission control room. They will be transported to the Gargarin Cosmonaut Center in Star City, Russia outside Moscow.

Soon afterwards both space agencies were reporting the astronauts were in good health. The intention was to have them work as a team of five until December, when the three scientists now aboard would return to Earth.

The head of Russia's top space medicine center says that two astronauts from the USA and Russian Federation are feeling good after an emergency landing.

"The emergency rescue system worked, the vessel was able to land in Kazakhstan. the crew are alive", the Russian space agency Roscosmos said in a tweet. The crew endured higher than normal G-force, but Russian and US space officials said they were in good condition.

NASA says that two astronauts from the US and Russian Federation are in good condition after an emergency landing following booster rocket failure minutes after the launch. For now, the two astronauts are safe as are NASA astronaut Serena Auñón-Chancellor, German astronaut Alexander Gerst and cosmonaut Sergey Prokopyev.

The crew "report they are in good condition", NASA said.

US astronaut Nick Hague, right and Russian cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin, member of the main crew of the expedition to the International Space Station (ISS), walk prior to the launch of Soyuz MS-10 space ship at the Russian leased Baikonur cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018.

It had taken off, as usual, from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in the country's south. Russian Federation has launched an investigation and suspended all launches of manned spacecraft until the probe is complete. He said Russian Federation will share all relevant information with the U.S.

Just two minutes after liftoff, the crew of the Soyuz MS-10 found themselves in a situation that every astronaut since the beginning of the manned space program has trained for, but very few have ever had to face: a failure during launch.

Staff monitoring the launch said the crew-NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin-returned to earth after launching from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Kenny Todd, operations integration manager at NASA for the International Space Station, says the three current residents of the orbiting outpost are fine and have plenty of supplies.

Paratroopers will parachute to the landing site of the Soyuz capsule, Reuters reported, citing military officials.

Search and rescue teams were dispatched to the landing location and collected the astronauts who made it safely back.

It was the first time that the Soyuz - the main workhorse of manned space flight today - had failed on a launch to the 20-year-old International Space Station.

Hague and Ovchinin launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 4:40 a.m. ET, heading to join the crew of the International Space Station.

Rogozin was flying to the scene of the emergency landing, the space agency said.

The spacecraft was a Russian Soyuz MS-10 and it was on expedition 57/58 to the International Space Station. The mission would have been Hague's first space flight.
