Lenovo Leads Global PC Shipments in Q3, HP Takes Second Spot: Gartner

Microsoft Becomes a Top 5 PC Maker in the US Lenovo tops worldwide PC market in flat quarter

With only 0.1% growth and 67.2 million units sold, there hasn't been much growth in the market this quarter, as noted by VentureBeat.

While Microsoft has managed to enter the top five PC makers in the U.S., thanks to the new Surface devices, the company still needs to work hand to maintain and move up the ladder.

Lenovo secured the top spot in the worldwide PC market with HP came second as the global PC shipments hit 67.2 million units in the third quarter of 2018 - a 0.1 per cent increase from the third quarter a year ago, research company Gartner said on Thursday.

Lenovo was No. 1 in global PC shipments in the third quarter. "We expect the Windows 10 upgrade cycle to continue through 2020 at which point the upgrade demand will diminish".

Gartner's PC shipment estimates for the third quarter of 2018 have HP Inc as the number one PC seller, followed by Dell - no surprises there - and Lenovo and Apple in third and fourth positions. The top three firms saw YoY shipments grow in Q3, while the bottom three experienced declines. With Microsoft taking the fifth spot, Acer has now fallen from the top five PC makers list. However, this certainly is a good news for the Surface devices as well as for the company. It says that shipments fell 0.9 percent last quarter, though that's still better than many expected. The company displaced Acer as one of the top 5 makers this quarter, with a market share of 4.1%, reports Gartner.

While growth is flat, it's still encouraging to find that the PC industry appears to have found its footing again after so many years of constant quarterly declines.
