Instagram is now using artificial intelligence to root out bullying in photos and captions, the Facebook-owned photo and video-sharing app announced Tuesday.

Instagram is hoping to stop bullying on its platform with a little help from artificial intelligence.

The move comes alongside new kindness camera effects on the photo sharing app in a bid to promote more positivity, as the United Kingdom prepares to mark Anti Bullying Week in November and the USA carries out its National Bullying Prevention Month throughout October.

"Online bullying is complex", he says, "and we know we have more work to do to further limit bullying and spread kindness on Instagram".

As part of the new measure, the photos in question will be sent to Instagram's team of reviewers who will then remove the content found to be in violation of its anti-bullying policy. It's unclear what else the technology can detect and whether it would work on images without captions.

If a human moderator deems the photo is in breach of the platform's community guidelines, the photo will be removed, and the poster will be notified of its deletion and told why.
