To create awareness about mental health issues, particularly among the adolescent, on the World Mental Health Day, an awareness rally was held here on Wednesday.

One in five adults experiences mental illness in any given year, and 17% of high school students report seriously considering suicide.

Mental health disorders are expected to drain 16 trillion United States dollars (£12 trillion) per year from the global economy by 2030, experts have said.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15 to 29-year-olds. "Young people that we're seeing are going through adolescence, they are going through the demands and challenges of puberty and that can affect their thought processes and how they rationalise things out".

Nearly one in three people will be struck by mental health problems while in employment, and it is the single largest cause of disability in the UK.

As World Mental Health Day focuses on the needs of young employees this year, GRiD, the trade body for the group risk industry wants to highlight the support that's available for young employees within group risk protection products (employer-sponsored life assurance, income protection and critical illness benefits).

We will also be encouraging local schools to get involved in better mental health, and why it is essential to support children from a young age to avoid trauma later in life, and working alongside partner organisations to get the campaign message across. "But I truly believe that secrets keep you sick", she said at a fundraiser in California.

Mental illness is rising in every country in the world - especially among young people - and will cost the global economy $16 trillion (around R235 trillion) by 2030. It covers a broad range of mental health issues, including depression, addiction, bereavement, bullying, suicide and self-harm. Go and call and check in on a friend who you know has been struggling.

"Mental health is something that fluctuates throughout a lifetime and with more support it makes people more functional".

"Many leading employers have found that making a strategic commitment to the mental wellbeing of their workforce not only benefits their staff but also their bottom-line, improving productivity and staff retention".
