At this week's Shanghai Masters, Roger Federer said tennis sets the standard for many sports when it comes to respectful behaviour - and that must extend to the treatment of ball boys and girls.

He will join Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin del Potro, who have also booked their places at The O2 in London from 11-18 November.

But barely three months after Federer walked out on Centre Court at Wimbledon wearing the whites of his new clothing sponsor, Uniqlo they've got him in the pink - so to speak.

The Italian battled his way past Hyeon Chung on Wednesday, coming from a set down to win 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-5).

This year's US Open introduced a 25-second serve clock for all matches, an innovation which will also be used at the Australian Open in January.

He will take on seventh-seeded Kevin Anderson of South Africa, whom he leads 6-1 on head-to-head.

There wasn't much Gasquet could have done as Del Potro just brought his A game when it mattered the most. This match was a ideal example of that it doesn't matter how many points do you win, but which points do you win, and even being under the weather, Del Potro did just that.

He will next face Borna Coric, who won his R2 match yesterday against Bradley Klahn easily.

It appears to be working and the 20-time Grand Slam victor opens his defence of the Shanghai Masters today against Daniil Medvedev in ominously good shape.

Top seed and holder Federer starts his campaign on Wednesday against Russia's Daniil Medvedev.

The Swiss Maestro was keen on taking advantage by playing some rapid tennis, and won the 1st set 6-4. I didn't play great in Cincinnati [the Western & Southern Open], but made the final there. Then, the level of tennis from both moved up a gear but the set still kept going on serve.

The Swiss, whose ranking as number two in the world is under threat this week, was broken three times in the second set to force a decider but eventually prevailed 6-3 2-6 6-4.

Bautista Agut had never taken a set off the defending champion heading into the contest but he clawed his way back from a set and a break down to push Federer all the way.

The number one seed and defending champion was pushed all the way by the surprise victor of the Japan Open, but broke in the ninth game of the deciding set before serving out to reach the last 16.

The 30-year-old Bautista Agut had the whiff of an upset in his nostrils and the prospect of a first victory over the Swiss at the eighth attempt.
