Le'Veon Bell remains away from Steelers Wednesday

Running back Le'Veon Bell #26 of the Pittsburgh Steelers tosses the ball forward after gaining a first down against the Kansas City Chiefs during the first quarter in the AFC Divisional Playoff game at Arrowhead Stadium on January 15, 2017 in Kansas City, Missouri.

James Conner, who had almost 200 total yards in Week 1, is now listed as Pittsburgh's No. 1 running back.

Bell has held out since training camp after failing to come to terms on a contract extension with the Steelers.

As you can see in the graphic below, from the 15 games which Bell hasn't played for the Steelers since 2015, they've only lost four of them, and they have a higher points per game average.

However, if Bell signs his current tag at any time prior to the date mentioned, Pittsburgh would have to either tag him a third time at a hefty price tag next offseason or let him hit free agency.

With the Steelers beginning their second week of regular season practice, the OH native remains AWOL and it appears increasingly likely his future might lie away from Pittsburgh.

The timing of the decision is odd, but Bell isn't now an employee of the Steelers and won't be until he signs a contract.

The Steelers and the running back failed to agree a long-term deal ahead of the July 16 deadline for franchise-tagged players.

A graphic from Fox Sports 1's The Herd with Colin Cowherd revealed some of the key stats the Steelers have rocked up with and without Bell on the field. That didn't just prove to not be the case, but it now seems the Steelers running back could push his holdout on for the foreseeable future. Conner was outstanding in his first career start in their Week 1 tie against the Browns. Ahead of Pittsburgh's season opener against Cleveland, Bell was listed as the starter, the Pittsburgh Tribune reported.
