Gordon had missed all of the preseason while nursing a hamstring injury.

After not listing him on the injury report all week, the Browns announced Saturday afternoon that Gordon would be out for Sunday's game against the Saints due to a hamstring issue and would not be on the trip.

John Dorsey announced in a statement that the club on Saturday afternoon informed the super talented but oft-suspended pass-catcher that he'll be released on Monday.

Multiple league sources told ESPN they believe the Browns will ship the troubled receiver before Monday and that Cleveland already has been getting calls about it.

"Unfortunately, we've reached a point where we feel it's best to part ways and move forward".

ESPN's Chris Mortensen says this decision was the culmination of many factors and that the Browns no longer felt they could trust Gordon.

The Browns announced in mid August that Gordon finally had reported. Per a report from Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns were anxious Gordon had a relapse in his substance abuse addiction.

The Browns selected Gordon in the second round of the 2012 Supplemental Draft.

Josh Gordon will soon be a free agent.

Schefter reports that Gordon hurt his hamstring at a promotional shoot, not a team practice. A Pro Bowl player in 2013, Gordon set a franchise record with an NFL-best 1,646 yards on 87 receptions with nine of those catches going for touchdowns after missing the first two games of the season because of a suspension.

Despite his past issues, Gordon was welcomed back by the Browns late last season.

Gordon caught the game-tying touchdown for the Browns in last week's game against the Steelers.
