Word around the water cooler earlier this year suggested Palm was prepping a new smartphone for launch in the second half of 2018.

The new Palm phone, codenamed "Pepito" will be made by TCL who purchased the brand back in 2014 after the companys well publicised collapse under the stewardship of Hewlett Packard. Keeping the lights on will supposedly be a small 800mAh capacity battery.

The phone will be tiny, more in line with the diminutive HP Veer than a higher end Treo or Palm Pre.

To go along with its shrunken display is a miserly Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor that is backed by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. What's interesting is that it has a 3.3-inch display, which is even smaller than what was found on the original Apple iPhone (3.5 inches).

The Palm brand name hasn't been attached to a smartphone in nearly a decade, but it looks like it's going to make a comeback, as a new Palm-branded phone has leaked. "Pepito" is expected to launch sans a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Android 8.1 will be pre-installed. The potential for a refreshing and innovative device was certainly there but according to the latest from Android Police, well, you'll probably want to wrangle those expectations a bit. Small phones are a rarity in 2018, and as such, the Pepito looks like nothing else that's now on the market.
