Rafa Nadal beats Stefanos Tstitipas to win Rogers Cup title

ATP Toronto Tsitspas saves 2 MP's against Zverev! Anderson tops Dimitrov Nadal sets up showdown with birthday boy Tsitsipas

Tsitsipas's breakout season has included a run to the final in Barcelona - where he lost to Nadal in their only previous meeting - and semifinal appearances in Estoril and Washington.

Tsitsipas, who turns 20 on Sunday, faced one match point before progressing against the world number six to reach to his first final on the main ATP world tour after nearly three hours.

Nadal said Tsitsipas has a great overall game and he will need to be aggressive in trying to move him around the court to gain control of the match.

"Winning in Toronto is so important".

"I'm very honest with you guys (the press)".

Rafael Nadal held off a late surge from birthday boy Stefanos Tsitsipas to claim the 80th title of his career with victory at the Toronto Masters on Sunday.

Nadal added the Canadian honour to the titles he won in 2005, 2008 and 2013.

"I'm very happy to have this trophy with me again", Nadal said. Stephens fought off three match points for one last service break before Halep closed it out.

But top seed and three-time Rogers Cup champion Nadal stormed home to see off the challenge of Cilic at the ATP 1000 tournament.

He then withdrew from next week's ATP Cincinnati Masters event as he prepares for this month's US Open, saying he had made a decision to adjust his schedule in order to preserve his fitness.

"The 20-year-old continued talking about Nadal's resiliency: "[Rafa] was, you know, normal like all of us and he managed to become this beast, this monster that he is today".

"I played that kind of game that you don't want to play when you are serving for the match".

He double-faulted on his first match point at 6-4, mistakenly thinking it was 5-3.

"It feels like I'm playing Davis Cup and everyone is backing me up and they're so supportive", Tsitsipas said.

"He will grab you like a bulldog and he will always make you suffer on the court", Tsitsipas continued.

Tsitsipas advanced past No. 2 Alex Zverev, No. 4 Kevin Anderson, No. 7 Dominic Thiem and No. 9 Novak Djokovic to earn a spot against Nadal.

Ranked No. 168 this week a year ago, Tsitsipas will climb to at least No.15 on Monday.

Anderson's sweep past reigning ATP World Tour Finals champion Dimitrov was a rematch of their 2014 quarterfinal duel in Canada when Dimitrov claimed one of his six wins against the South African.

The Greek teenager, who turns 20 on Sunday's final day, defeated his third straight top 10 opponent at the tournament after knocking out Dominic Thiem in the second round and 13-time major victor Novak Djokovic in the third.
