Gary Neville tells Premier League challengers to 'leave one on Manchester City'

Manchester City vs Arsenal Arsenal’s new manager Unai Emery will look for a positive start against Champions Manchester City

Danny Welbeck has been tested in a left-back role for Arsenal ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with Manchester City, head coach Unai Emery has said.

But Arsenal have a new manager and and some new players, and hopefully some surprising new tactics to try out on Pep Guardiola's team, and as discussed in the previous article they will also hopefully have a new fighting spirit as well.

However, the former Monaco title-winner has shown his impressive progress in preseason and if he performs well against Arsenal, perhaps Guardiola will be given something to ponder over.

With Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac expected to miss the visit of champions City to Emirates Stadium on Sunday, Welbeck has been trialled as a full-back during training.

"It's clear, the aim for the club is to arrive as champions, play for titles".

Man City's domestic success has been well documented over the last few years, while Arsenal have failed to finish in the top four of the EPL in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1996.

Crucial to this game's outcome is how Emery approaches his first game.

Favouring a 4-2-3-1 formation, Emery is likely to field new arrival Lucas Torreira at the base of his midfield with Granit Xhaka providing the necessary steel. Emery had hinted at his choice of the other four during preseason, as Cech, Ramsey, Ozil and Xhaka were all captain for at least one game.

The German should be flanked by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the left and Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the right. And underdogs they will be against Pep Guardiola's side.

"The important thing is to be there and to be ourselves". It's not winning back to back, it's to be ourselves.

'People say we have to forget what we did last season. Together I think we can improve, to win in our way.

Predictions, Gooners? Let us know in the comments... That's the basic principle.

It remains to be seen how much football Cech, now second in the pecking order, plays this season as Arsene Wenger in recent years used to utilised his second-string stopper in the cup competitions but it's not known whether Emery will do the same.

Walker, Kompany and Stones should be fit after playing a part in the Community Shield but the likes of Raheem Sterling, De Bruyne and Silva may have to settle for places on the bench.
