Wearing necktie may hamper a person's creative and thinking abilities as it obstructs blood flow. Researchers have noted that constricting neckwear such as neckties can cause reduced blood flow to the brain and thus it can reduce the proper functioning of the brain.

For the purposes of their study, a team of researchers led by Dr. Robin Luddecke of the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein in Kiel, Germany recruited 30 healthy young men and divided them into two groups, one group of 15 that was asked to wear open-collared shirts, and another group of 15 that was asked to wear ties.

Study suggests men who wear t-shirts in the office may produce better work. An earlier study also found a link between wearing of ties regularly and risk for blindness.

After scanning the brains of the participants, the researchers found that the ties squeezed the veins where the blood passes through to reach the brain, cutting off circulation by 7.5 percent. It could be the fact that a tightened tie causes discomfort around the windpipe which may affect blood flow, or affects the jugular vein causing back pressure to the brain, thereby sending a signal that decreases blood flow to the brain.

Latest research has shown that wearing a neck tie isn't such a good idea after all! For example, only 30 men took part in the study, which is far too few subjects for anyone to make any generalization. It impairs brain function, increases the intraocular pressure and promotes the emergence of deadly diseases. The group wearing neckties were scanned three times - once when they were wearing the neck tie loosely around their necks with an open collar, second time when they were wearing the ties tight to a slight discomfort with buttoned collar and third time when the ties and the collars are loosened again.

The researchers said that the findings suggest an association between the wearing tight necktie regularly and eye problem.
