The US President will be delivered by Air Force One, straight from the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels, where he made a blistering attack on America's European allies over levels of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation defence spending.

Trump had been reacting to recent fractions within the Cabinet over Brexit. It was during that trip to Washington that she invited him to the UK.

He said: 'I am going to a pretty hot spot right now with a lot of resignations'.

During a press conference before departing the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit for the U.K., Trump was asked how he feels about the planned protests. "I was happy when Obama did it". The people voted to break it up so I would imagine that's what they would do, but maybe they're taking a different route - I don't know if that is what they voted for'.

Donald Trump has said that British people like him a lot because of his views on immigration, ahead of his first official visit to the UK.

Trump has always been a supporter of Brexit and has expressed enthusiasm for a wide-ranging trade deal with Britain after it leaves the European Union, something heralded by Brexit supporters as being one of the great benefits of exiting the bloc.

Following the departure of senior figures, including foreign minister Boris Johnson and Brexit minister David Davis, the political atmosphere is febrile.

Mr Trump will instead be ensconced at Windsor Castle, west of London on Friday when a blimp tethered next to the Houses of Parliament.

"There will be no alliance more important in the years ahead", she said.

"This week we have an opportunity to deepen this unique trading relationship and begin discussions about how we will forge a strengthened, ambitious and future-proof trade partnership".

The US president is set to touch down for his visit on Thursday after sparking a new firestorm on the global stage.

"It's really kind of irrelevant to what we're trying to do and I don't think certainly it doesn't express the opinion of the British people I met", he said. I think they like me a lot in the United Kingdom.

"I would be happy to see Hillary Clinton if she was president visit the UK".

The small gathering at a location to be confirmed in London - and at which Mr Trump is not expected to attend - is likely to be easily outnumbered by protesters involved in a series of demonstrations organised for the coming days, including the flying of a 20ft-high Trump inflatable near Parliament.

Theresa May will be seeking to improve her often publicly strained relationship with Donald Trump as she pushes for a post-Brexit trade deal with America during his visit to Britain.
