Thai Soccer Team Members Recuperate in Hospital After Cave Rescue

The wife of a Thai navy diver who died working to rescue a youth soccer team trapped for days in a flooded cave says she misses him dearly, but has urged the boys not to blame themselves for his death. What we do is very calculating, very calm.

Doctors said that when the boys first arrived, one had a heartbeat that was too slow and some other had low counts of white blood cells, though those issues have since been resolved.

The boys are all recovering in hospital.

A screen grab shows boys rescued from the Thai cave wearing mask and resting in a hospital in Chiang Rai, Thailand from a July 11, 2018 handout video. Some made the two-finger victory sign from their hospital beds.

The last rescued boys and their coach arrive at Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital on Tuesday in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

"Everyone is strong in mind and heart", he said at a news conference of officials involved in the rescue.

Even so, all need to be monitored in the hospital for seven days and then rest at home for another 30 days, he said.

The parents have reportedly only been able to see their children through windows as they recover. Authorities are anxious about the possibility of infections picked up in the cave. One of the boys lies on it covered in a metallic, reflective material.

"The important thing is ... personal space", Prayuth told reporters.

The rescue sparked jubilation with Thais heaping praise on the rescue team of foreign and local divers as the triumphant tagline "Hooyah" pinballed across social media.

The most risky part of the journey out of the labyrinthine cave system was the first kilometer, during which they were required to squeeze through a narrow flooded channel.

But he had denied they were knocked out for an operation the chief of the rescue had dubbed "mission impossible". "Be good people, be a force for good for your country", Rear Admiral Apakorn Yuukongkaew, commander of Thailand's navy SEALS unit, said in a message to them before boarding a flight from Chiang Rai.

He added: "We are not heroes".

Ms Bishop said the doctor is also known to authorities for his work on medical assistance teams in natural disasters in the Pacific region, and has taken part in Australian aid missions in Vanuatu. There were volunteers from Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Canada, Ukraine and Finland.

They were found dishevelled and emaciated but alive on a muddy ledge 4km inside the cave nine days after they went missing. Jessada also said a psychiatrist was attending to the boys, who are sleeping well and are not showing symptoms of stress. Players from France and England welcomed news of the rescue and sent their best wishes to the "Wild Boars" on Twitter.

It went viral, earning more than 9,000 retweets in less than a day.

Manchester City and England defender Kyle Walker, whose team faces Croatia in the second semi-final later on Wednesday, said he wanted to send shirts to the boys.

"It's Thai, Westerners, Europeans, Aussies - people from all over the world who helped bring these kids to safety", Scott told Reuters.
