Federal Bureau of Investigation special counsel Robert Mueller's latest round of indictments, against 12 Russian intelligence operatives, has a slew of Florida connections, including naming the source of the 2016 leaks against some Florida Democrats, including Gwen Graham.
The indictment said a person in contact with a senior member of the Trump campaign communicated with Guccifer 2.0, and the conversation mirrors the Twitter exchange Stone had with the online persona.
The Department of Justice is charging 12 Russian military intelligence agents with hacking Democratic party servers, and Stone is allegedly the bridge between Trump and the Russian hackers.
The document includes messages exchanged between Guccifer 2.0 and the person in contact with Trump campaign officials.
In a contentious interview, Stone refused to admit that he talked to Russian intelligence agents during the campaign, but did finally admit that he was the unnamed person of interest mentioned, after saying he was not earlier today.
"No, I'm sorry, I think it is still unproven", he said.
Roger Stone appears to be the unnamed individual in a new Russian Federation probe indictment made public Friday who is described as having communicated with Guccifer 2.0 in 2016.
"This exchange is entirely public and provides no evidence of collaboration or collusion with Guccifer 2.0 or anyone else in the alleged hacking of the DNC emails, as well as taking place many weeks after the events described in today's indictment", Stone said.
The Mueller's team appeared increasingly focused on whether any associates of Trump knew that the Russian government had hacked emails from the DNC and Clinton's campaign chairman John Podesta and provided them to Wikileaks during the last presidential election, according to those sources.
More news: VR therapy may lessen fear of heights, says studyDeputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said that no Americans are accused of having knowingly conspired with Russian intelligence officers.
Stone went on to closely parse the language of the indictment, arguing, "My contact with the campaign in 2016 was Donald Trump".
Roger Stone, former confidant to President Trump speaks to the media after appearing before the House Intelligence Committee closed door hearing, September 26, 2017 in Washington, DC.
Stone for his part has rejected any notion he was part of some grand conspiracy of collusion.
The longtime political trickster Stone has stated that he did not have prior knowledge of WikiLeaks' release of thousands of DNC emails before the 2016 election, a leak that Hillary Clinton and other Democrats have credited with helping Trump take the White House.
Nunberg added that he thought Stone is "a critical piece for Bob Mueller".
Just because Stone wasn't named, does not mean it would signal one way or another if he is being looked at by investigators, Epner said.
"In a news conference Friday, Rosenstein said the indictment does not name an American citizen as a knowing participant".
