West Bromwich Albion will fine James McClean after the Ireland worldwide failed to report for their pre-season camp in Scotland.

According to the club, and several reporters, the winger wasn't given permission to miss the trip, and he will now be disciplined.

"James McClean has failed to report without permission and will now face internal disciplinary proceedings", it reads on West Brom's website. In recent days, the 29-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Stoke City, who were also relegated from the English top flight at the end of last season.

New Stoke boss Gary Rowett tried and failed to capture McClean in January when he was the manager at Derby County.

Last month goalkeeper Ben Foster, who has since joined Watford, and defender Craig Dawson were fined for not going on a pre-season tour to Portugal.

McClean has spent three years at The Hawthorns, making 112 appearances for West Brom since joining the club from Wigan.

"So James McClean follows the stance adopted by Foster and Dawson earlier in the summer, and refuses to go on a pre-season training camp". The JOE World Cup Minipod semi-final preview hosted by Dion Fanning and Paddy McKenna is here.
