U.S. tennis star Serena Williams has outplayed Julia Görges of Germany 6-2 6-4 to propel herself into the Wimbledon final just 10 months after giving birth to her daughter.

Kerber is bidding to become the first German woman to win Wimbledon was Steffi Graf in 1996.

But the former world number one has been reinvigorated over the last few months.

After Kerber had her serve broken in the second set, Ostapenko powered back to take another game, but Kerber was able to complete the sweep when Ostapenko fired two serves back into the net and returned the final volley outside the lines on match point.

"It is a great feeling to be in the final and playing on the Centre Court is always a great experience and I am really excited", she told the BBC.

Two months ago she withdrew from her French Open last 16 match against Russia's Maria Sharapova due to health problems just hours before the encounter was planned to start.

And the first Latvian woman to make the Wimbledon semi-finals was paying the price for more rash mistakes as the match slipped away.

While it's unfair on the other players to merely write off their chances of challenging Williams, it's also slightly arbitrary to say the American can sweep all in her path given it is only her second grand slam since returning from maternity leave with her daughter still not a year old.

Seven-time champion Serena Williams reached the Wimbledon final for the 10th time on Thursday and will face Germany's Angelique Kerber for the title. She missed the 2017 tournament as she was pregnant with her daughter Alexis Jr., who was born on September 1 of that year.

She is on a 19-match winning streak at the All England Club, with her last defeat coming against France's Alize Cornet in the 2014 third round.

Times have changed, opponents have come and gone, and Serena Williams keeps vying for Grand Slam titles.

Goerges is the only one of the four semi-finalists still waiting to win her first Grand Slam title.

The 30-year-old was gifted point after point as Ostapenko's aggressive game backfired in a blaze of unforced errors.
