Kei Nishikori predicts Wimbledon 'war' with Novak Djokovic

Wimbledon 'I'm p****d off': Nick Kyrgios accused of tanking Wimbledon defeat

Japanese former world number four Nishikori, seeded 24th, was troubled by his right elbow during the first set which he lost after being broken in the fifth game. "It wasn't working well for me first set", said Nishikori.

"I'm very happy to be in the quarter-finals of a Slam".

Or being by turns self-reflective and sarcastic during the news conference afterward, including when a reporter noted that Kyrgios' tennis career has featured some complicated moments - a euphemism if ever there was one - and he shot a sideways glance toward his agent, smiled wryly and replied, "Have I?"

Alexander Zverev suffered a third-round exit at Wimbledon, losing to the Latvian Ernests Gulbis.

Complaining constantly about not being to move, 15th seed Kyrgios was unable to lay a glove on Nishikori's serve. I think that's his motivation, for sure. She will next face Belgium's Alison Van Uytvanck, who followed up her surprise win over defending champion Garbine Muguruza by beating Estonian Anett Kontaveit 6-2 6-3.

"Of course it's an important result for me", said Nadal.

"Not much I can do really".

A loss to Nishikori, save for the diabolical first set, is hardly something to be ashamed about.

"He played well. He returned really well", Kyrgios said of Nishikori. A nasty fall, which required a medical time out on his left knee, doomed Gulbis's bid to become just the sixth qualifier to reach the last-eight at Wimbledon. I knew that he was much better than the first set. "I didn't deserve to be treated the way I was treated by certain individuals".

Djokovic, meanwhile, reached the quarterfinals for the 10th time with a 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 win over Russia's Karen Khachanov.

Nishikori, runner-up at the U.S. Open in 2014, has twice previously made it through to the last 16 at the All England Club. Struggling with a groin, the Frenchman still managed to make a push, even holding break points on the Swiss, but Federer was too strong in the end in a 6-0, 7-5, 6-4.

"I nearly couldn't move". Djokovic got into a bit of a two-sided argument with the crowd after he was booed following a time violation in the third set.

Asked whether it was exciting to be involved in such a tight encounter against Istomin, where the only service break of the entire match arrived in the penultimate game, Kyrgios was not ready to accept the premise. Everything kind of just went south, I guess. That's what I didn't like.

Becker and Murray's pre-tournament praise came with caveats: Yes, Kyrgios could win the whole thing, but only if he was able to sustain his best efforts for two weeks and continually back up to win the seven matches required to claim a grand slam title. "I just reacted the way I thought was fair, the way they reacted to me".

"It was a great atmosphere to be in", Edmund said.
