After spending half her life in physical therapy, Maya had a surgery called dorsal rhizotomy, which involves cutting certain sensory nerve fibers that come from the muscles and enter the spinal cord, according to St. Louis Children's Hospital. "I'm walking! Yes!. I even took a big step".

Heartwarming video has emerged showing the moment a little girl with cerebral palsy walked for the first time. Maya had to spend 26 weeks at the ICU but her fighting spirit earned her the nickname "Mighty Miss Maya" from her family members and friends.

Video of a precious, incredible little girl has gone viral, all because of her wonderful courage and determination to walk. Her fifth birthday is just two months away, and her family thinks that by then, mighty miss Maya will be hard to keep up with. "Because of her CP, Maya is now unable to stand on her own for more than a few seconds, or walk without the use of walker".

"I'm walking! ... I'm walking!" cheers Maya.

"Maya still has CP", Ann Tisdale told ABC News.

Tisdale said that although Maya had been using the assistance of a walker since she was 1, Maya really desired to walk independently.

Doctors told the family it could take six months to a year for Maya to be able to walk on her own after the surgery, but her mother captured the magical moment Maya began to walk on her own just seven weeks after the surgery, and the little girl couldn't believe it herself.

Maya Tisdale from MI was born 4 months early and weighed 1 pound and 10 ounces. She still has the damage in her brain and she still has some tightness in her legs.

The now-viral clip shows Maya sitting on a small bench and teetering for her first two steps before plopping back down on the seat.
