Federal Bureau of Investigation agent: My work has never been tainted by political bias

'At no time in any of these texts did those personal beliefs ever enter into the realm of any action I took, ' Strzok said.

"Like many people, I had and expressed personal political opinions during an extraordinary presidential election", Strzok said.

The hearing was often raucous and seemed at times more like a TV comedy about Congress than a real committee hearing.

Strzok is on Capitol Hill Thursday to answer questions and defend himself, after his anti-Trump text messages with then-FBI official Lisa Page placed him under intense scrutiny, particularly from Republicans.

Democrats, led by Judiciary Committee ranking member Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., attempted to throw a number of procedural roadblocks into the way of the majority's questions, including with a number of motions and "points of order" to slow the questioning.

He also flatly rejected the president's characterizations of Mueller's work and the threat of Russian election interference, saying, "This investigation is not politically motivated, it is not a witch hunt, it is not a hoax". "She simply needs clarification of the scope of the Committee's interest in interviewing her and access to relevant documents so that she can provide complete and accurate testimony", Jeffress said in a Wednesday statement.

Strzok told lawmakers that he was overseen by bureaucratic layers of oversight that would have stopped him from meddling in the election, even if he had wanted to do so.

Strzok has been a lightning rod in the political sphere over the last several months, particularly since it emerged that he and Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer Lisa Page exchanged thousands of text messages during the election expressing support for Clinton and denigrating Trump.

In August 2016, Strzok responded to a message from then-FBI lawyer Lisa Page, with whom he was romantically involved, about Trump's chance of being elected president.

In an interview with investigators with the Justice Department's Inspector General, Page said she was "totally appalled that the President would insult the father of a dead service member".

The two agents disparaged Trump throughout 2016, describing him as an "idiot" and a "menace".

It is point that has been largely brushed aside in Trump-friendly media circles, with a text Strzok sent to Page in May 2017 also receiving comparatively little scrutiny.

Political observers were far from impressed today when the House Judiciary Committee plunged into total madness during their hearing with Peter Strzok.

"Mr. Strzok, you are under subpoena, and are required to answer the question", Goodlatte said.

Goodlatte went on to say she is still under the subpoena after dubbing it "disturbing" when she refused to comply with it on Wednesday.

Peter Strzok, who helped lead FBI investigations into Hillary Clinton's email use and potential coordination between Russian Federation and Donald Trump's campaign, was testifying publicly for the first time since being removed from special counsel Robert Mueller's team following the discovery of the derogatory text messages previous year. It is not a witch hunt.

"It would be his candidacy for the presidency", Strzok said. Her lawyer said Page had offered to voluntarily appear before the committees later this month but needed more clarification about what the lawmakers would be asking. Wow, but is anybody really surprised!
