Ali Sulaiman, planetary scientist at the University of Iowa and a member of the RPWS team, added that Enceladus was a "little generator going around Saturn", which was a continuous source of energy, Popular Mechanics reported.

According to Science Alert, by utilizing the Radio Plasma Wave Science tool (RPWS), researchers have been able to hear plasma waves traveling in between the two bodies, proving that these waves are able to easily navigate the magnetic field lines between Enceladus and Saturn.

Cassini detected electromagnetic waves in the audio frequency range and, just as radio turns those waves into music, scientists have turned the waves Cassini found into sounds. At the end of the day, Cassini recognized electromagnetic waves in the sound recurrence extend - and on the ground, we can open up and play those signs through a speaker.

But before you head to the doomsday bunkers to prepare for the Saturnian invasion, we should point out that they're not they're not "sounds" in the traditional sense - they're plasma waves.

Plasma is called "the fourth state of matter" and it is not the gas, liquid or solid.

In the course he had discovered a previously unknown interaction between Saturn and its satellite Enceladus.

"The recording time was compressed from 16 minutes to 28.5 seconds".

Is Saturn "singing" to one of its moons?

Normally, it takes a medium like air or water to transmit sound energy, but in this case the energy was being transmitted by waves of plasma that connect Saturn and Enceladus.

NASA's Glen Nagle says the Earth also sings to our moon - but there isn't much evidence the moon sings back.

Sulaiman is lead author of two papers on this discovery.

NASA said the plasma waves were detected on September 2, 2017, about two weeks before Cassini ended its mission with a bang by deliberately crashing into Saturn.

The Cassini-Huygens mission is a cooperative project of NASA, ESA (European Space Agency) and the Italian Space Agency. The RPWS instrument was built by the University of Iowa, working with team members from the US and several European countries.
