A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was confirmed that the Saints have continued their extremely productive summer by signing Angus Gunn from Manchester City.

The 22-year-old, who impressed whilst on loan at Norwich City last season, is expected to complete a move to St Mary's this week in a deal worth a reported £15m.

He spent last season on loan at Norwich, the former club of his father, retired Scotland goalkeeper Bryan Gunn.

McCarthy finished the season as first-choice goalkeeper, with Forster's last game the 5-2 Premier League defeat by Tottenham at Wembley on Boxing Day. The deal for Gunn surely throws serious doubt over the future of Fraser Forster, whose form last season was nothing like what it was during the early stages of his spell on the south coast.

He has represented England at youth level, including helping the Under-21 squad triumph at the Toulon Tournament in 2016, and was called up to train with the full squad prior to the friendly with Brazil in November 2017.

Gunn will leave Manchester City with Ederson, Claudio Bravo, Daniel Grimshaw as the remaining first-team goalkeepers for the blue side of Manchester.
