Vivo's concept Apex is real and it could be your Nex phone
Vivo NEX is official with super-thin bezels, pop-up front camera and top-end specs

Vivo has been the frontrunner this year in innovating new technologies. There's no cutout at the top, yet its bezels are still tantalizingly thin.
TechRadar is now in China at the launch of the new Vivo phone, so we'll be testing out the phone as soon as possible to give you our verdict on this next-generation device. Here's everything you need to know about it. The bezels are tiny on all sides, including the bottom.
The NEX S achieves an impressive 91.24% screen-to-body ratio by letting go of the notch and having a minimal chin on the bottom. The handset features the same 6.59-inch full-HD+ (1080x2316 pixels) Super AMOLED display with a 19.3:9 aspect ratio. Screen density is a relatively low 338 ppi, but thanks to the large screen, it shouldn't be a huge issue.
As for the general specs, Vivo isn't pulling any punches. The secret is the hidden front-facing camera. Like previous Vivo phones, it uses AI to help you take better shots.
It's an ingenious solution to a problem that phone designers have been trying to solve ever since Xiaomi started the bezel-less craze with the Mi Mix.
The notch-free "Ultra FullView" construction is made possible by an improved screen-embedded fingerprint sensor and an 8MP "elevating" front-facing camera that purportedly needs a little over a second to pop up from its hiding place. Vivo claims the mechanism can be raised and lowered up to 50,000 times and that the camera has undergone reliability and dust resistance testing.
Now known as the Nex, the phone's pop-up camera leaves room for an all-screen design.
Vivo has also incorporated the fingerprint sensor in the display, much like the Vivo X21, that was launched in India recently.
Do you think all-screen smartphones are the future? Remember the Vivo APEX concept smartphone which the Chinese company showcased at the MWC 2018? The Vivo Nex S and Nex A also feature 7.1-channel 3D audio.
The Vivo NEX smartphone comes in three variants. A 4,000mAh keeps the hardware humming along. There's no microSD card slot inside the smartphone. It also comes with optical image stabilization and an LED flash on the rear. Yes, there's a boatload of AI features inside, ranging from scene recognition that works with the 12 and 5 megapixel main cameras to filters to even a voice assistant. It leans too heavily on iOS for our liking, and the entire software suite could use a good polish. Vivo NEX also features its own AI-powered smart assistant called Jovi. There's a dedicated button on the side of the camera that triggers Jovi on the long-press action.
No word on global availability - the press release just says that it will be available in China but we knew that from the start. The variant with the Snapdragon 845 will retail for ¥4,498 ($700), and the version with 256GB of storage will set customers back ¥4,998 ($780).
In the meantime, what are your thoughts on the Vivo NEX?
