Mr Trump labelled De Niro a "very low IQ individual," after the Oscar-winning actor launched an expletive-laden attack on the stage of the Tony Awards ceremony in NY on Sunday.

Oh, yeah, and he went ahead and nicknamed Robert De Niro "Punchy".

"Robert De Niro, a very low IQ individual, has received too many shots to the head by real boxers in movies".

But Mr Trump hit back by labelling her "one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood".

Trump defended himself against De Niro's attack by praising the economy under his watch.

About 15 minutes before posting about the actor, the president tweeted that he had gotten along great with Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader. "It's f-- Trump." He did not elaborate on his comment. "He repeated 'F*** Trump" a second time and received a standing ovation from the crowd at the awards show for excellence in Broadway theater, held in NY.

On Sunday, the Oscar-winning actor had to be bleeped during a live television broadcast of the theater-celebration ceremony.

At Sunday's Tony Awards, Robert De Niro was tasked with introducing Bruce Springsteen's performance of "My Hometown", but he used his moment on stage to make a quick political statement.

Trump, sounding a bit furious, posted a series of tweets against Robert De Niro. Some Twitter users reacted to Trump's misspelling of "to".

While De Niro's outburst received accolades from the anti-Trump #Resistance, it was the president's fans' turn to gloat after the twitter response.
