Trudeau spat a 'serious summer squall,' Mulroney says

Finally, Trump rejected as "fake news" a question by CNN about his tense relations with other G7 leaders, especially Germany's Angela Merkel, France's Emmanuel Macron and Canada's Justin Trudeau.

Just as the Trudeau-hosted G7 meeting of the world's leading industrialized nations had seemed to weather Mr. Trump's threats of a trade war, the president backed out of the group's joint statement that Trudeau said all the leaders had come together to sign.

"Justin acts hurt when called out!" the US president said in his latest Tweet.

The scene was captured in a photo during the G7 summit, and the seemingly tense moment did not go unnoticed.

Last month, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his government would retaliate against Trump's tariffs by imposing import taxes on $12.8 billion worth of USA imports in what Canada says its strongest trade action since the World War II.

"Canadians are polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around", said Trudeau.

President Donald Trump, predictably, did not leave his little temper tantrums at the White House.

Mulroney's role as a former prime minister advising an opposing party is unique to him throughout Canada's history and is indicative of the alignment between the two main federal parties over the trade file.

Even Hollywood actor Robert de Niro was weighing in. In tweets, Trump insulted Trudeau as "dishonest" and "weak".

The US president took to Twitter while on his trip to Singapore for the historic summit with North Korea to call Trudeau "Very dishonest & weak".

Trump also slammed Europe, writing, "the United States pays close to the entire cost of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation - protecting many of these same countries that rip us off on trade".

When asked about Trump's remarks in Parliament on Tuesday, Trudeau said he supports Trump's efforts on North Korea and looks forward to the details of that agreement.

"The Prime Minister said nothing he hasn't said before - both in public, and in private conversations with the President".

Mr. Trump called Trudeau "dishonest & weak" after Trudeau said at a news conference that Canada would retaliate for new USA tariffs.

"Very disappointing and childish and unprofessional behavior [from Trudeau]", Gorka said while on Fox & Friends on Monday.

Trump agreed with the language in the communique from the summit in Canada Friday and Saturday, but took offense at criticism of US tariffs by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at his news conference after Trump left early.

Chief trade adviser Peter Navarro said there's "a special place in hell" for Trudeau and anyone else who negotiates in "bad faith" with Trump.

Mr Trump's salvo capped a rollecoaster two days of controversies that began with his suggestion Russian Federation be readmitted to the G7, then what a French official described as a "rant" full of "recriminations" against USA trading partners, followed by a denial of any tensions with leaders at the summit and his description of their relationship as a "10".

Heyman waged a campaign on Twitter to persuade Navarro to apologize by saying he was contacting US politicians about his remarks. John McCain and ex-FBI director James Comey - who Trump unceremoniously fired previous year - took to Twitter to offer their support.

"On his comments, I'm going to stay focused on defending jobs for Canadians and supporting Canadian interests", Trudeau said before walking away from reporters.

Trump swiftly responded to Trudeau by upending the communiqué in a series of tweets Saturday evening.

Global cooperation can not depend on fits of anger or little words.
