The Last of Us II trailer shows Ellie's grisly survival

Following a soulful performance by Gustavo Santaolalla (playing TLoU soundtrack), we are dropped directly into the gameplay trailer.

Above, you can watch the first trailer for The Last of Us: Part 2.

Co-lead game designer Richard Cambier initially dodged the question with a "We aren't saying anything about that yet" response but creative director Neil Druckmann later chose to confirm that Ellie will indeed be the only playable character in the upcoming game.

Surely, The Last of Us Part 2 isn't just going to close that chapter without some explanation. Ellie is capable of salvaging things like arrows from corpses and crafting (explosive arrows to cause havoc) on the go. It's like a spark of hope in a world that has devolved into chaos. Sure, it's a bad guy, but still.

Most of the trailer sees Ellie being very stealthy.

While the The Last of Us Part 2 will tell a linear story, the action will take place in vast environments. Suffice it to say, maybe give this a miss if strong carnage is something you'd like to avoid. "The human enemies you'll encounter are now more threatening and capable, using sophisticated communication and environmental awareness to create intense, more dynamic stealth and head-on combat encounters". After the last execution, we flash back to the dance party, now with an obvious dose of tragedy. We know it'll be available for the PlayStation 4 and be a single-player title, but finer details like price and launch date aren't provided.
