Syrian President Assad denies that Russian Federation is making decisions for him

Assad: Russia is not coordinated with Israeli ‘enemy’ in Syria Netanyahu: Europeans support Israel’s demand for Iran to leave Syria

In a calculated move to guarantee the presence of Iranian-backed militias in Syria without any frictions with the Israeli forces on its border, the Bashar al-Assad regime is disguising them in Syrian uniforms.

In the interview, Assad said he expects the war in his country to be over in "less than a year".

In a wide-ranging interview in Damascus with the Mail on Sunday, Assad slammed the United States and British military actions in Syria as "colonial" while praising supporter Russian Federation.

The Syrian president also pointed out that for the previous 20 years, many young Syrians had remained under the Western influence and often times knew about the United States more than they knew about their own country.

He said the involvement of foreign powers such as Britain, the U.S. and France was prolonging the conflict and had slowed down a resolution to the situation in rebel-held areas of southwestern Syria. The Syrian government refers to all groups opposed to its rule as terrorists.

Assad tells the Mail on Sunday that Western nations have lied about chemical attacks in Syria and supported terrorist groups there, while Russian Federation has supported his government against the foreign "invasion". "They have never changed this policy since the old way of colonialism that existed in the beginning of the 20th century and the 19th century and before, but today it's covered by, let's say, a new mask, or different masks".

The prime minister said that even though Iran's departure from Syria is going to be a "long process, I believe that if you set a goal, if you know where you are going, you have a greater chance of getting there".

"No, no, that's not true", he said.

"Russia never coordinated with anyone against Syria, either politically or militarily, and that's [a] contradiction", he said.

Syrian President Bashar Assad denied Russian Federation coordinated Israeli strikes inside his country, noting it was impossible for the Putin regime to both aid the Syrian Army and, at the same time, "work with our enemies in order to destroy our army". Iran and Hezbollah have been widely seen as instrumental to bolstering the success of Assad's forces throughout the war.

The objective of Western nations' intervention in Syria, "the main goal", Al-Assad explained, "is regime change".
