Red Cross launches Missing Types campaign

What if A, B and O vanished? American Red Cross Seeking Blood Donors
Celia Hoffman | 14 June, 2018, 00:37

The SANBS is asking organisations to remove the letters A, B and O (symbolising the "missing" blood types with the same letters) from their logos for a week to raise awareness of the need for new blood donors. Many may not realize just how important these three letters can be until they are gone.

"Since launching globally a few years ago, the initiative has notched up phenomenal success, spurring thousands of new blood donors to sign up worldwide", said Silungile Mlambo, the SANBS's chief marketing officer.

6/13/2018: 12 p.m. - 6 p.m., Bloomington Blood Donation Center, 1600 W. 3rd St. If you must miss an appointment to donate please reschedule when you can.

"Across New Zealand, there are 110,000 active donors, all of whom save the lives of almost 29,000 people around the country every year". Last year's blood drive gathered the support of 67 donors, including 17 first-time donors.

You can join the #MissingType movement by donating blood to the American Red Cross. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.

The Red Cross says every two seconds, someone in this country needs a blood transfusion. According to the survey, about 45 percent of people know someone who's been impacted by a blood transfusion, but only 3 percent of the US population actually donates.
