The Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories have remained tense since last December, when U.S. President Donald Trump announced his decision to relocate the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The number of demonstrators is expected to increase later on the afternoon. The soldier then immediately responded to the assault by firing at the Palestinian.

Israel accuses Hamas of using demonstrators as human shields while trying to carry out attacks and says it is defending its sovereign border.

Iran does not recognize Israel and supports anti-Israeli militant groups such as Hamas, which rules Gaza, and Lebanon's Hezbollah.

A cousin of hers had been shot in the head earlier in the day during clashes with Israeli soldiers, her lawyers have said.

The army is preparing for large-scale confrontations throughout the day, with military reinforcements stationed in multiple positions along the Gaza border fence.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians have participated in the protests.

Israeli war planes threw flyers over Gaza city on Thursday afternoon, warning the people there not to join Friday's protests and rallies in eastern Gaza Strip.

Since the "March of Return" protests began along the Gaza border at the end of March, hundreds of kites and helium balloons have been flown into Israel outfitted with Molotov cocktails and containers of burning fuel, setting fire to large swaths of land.

On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu initiated a program by which Israeli farmers whose agricultural lands were destroyed by terrorists would be compensated with money Israel collects for the Palestinian Authority. "We congratulate the Trump administration for standing on the wrong side of history and blocking the worldwide majority's well and endorsing the Israeli culture of impunity, which violates all UNSC resolutions protecting Palestinian rights in the 1967 and Jerusalem from 242 to recent 2334".

Col. Nadav Livne, commander of the unit operating the drones, told reporters Thursday that the drones now have a "more than 90 percent" success rate in taking down the kites.
