This was reportedly before she chose to wet herself instead of going to the bathroom.

According to a report from The Mirror, everything seemed normal when the girl's parents purchased her an Xbox One for Christmas of past year. However, the gravity of the situation came to the forefront when the father found her sitting on an urine-soaked cushion while playing the game. "She was so hooked to the game she wouldn't even go to the toilet", Carol explained.

Her mother, Carol, 36, said she and her husband Richard bought her an Xbox in January and she downloaded Fortnite.

The girl, who is now in intensive therapy to combat her addiction, would play for up to 10 hours a day.

"This is a serious issue which is destroying our little girl's life and someone needs to step in to ban it before it becomes an epidemic". "We got called in by her head teacher asking if everything was okay". After the girl's father tried to take away the Xbox, she reportedly slapped him across the face for attempting to withdraw the console.

Once a keen sportswoman, the youngster starting saying she was too exhausted to do gym or ballet classes and avoided going to church on Sunday with her family.

The parents said their daughter started showing aggressive behavior after becoming hooked on the game.

Despite the game being free on the online store, regular payments of $67 (Rs 4512) were made using their credit card, which the girl said was for in-game purchases.

She tearfully confessed she had been getting up in the middle of the night while they were asleep, sometimes playing the game until 5am. At the moment, she is following a rehab program and therapy sessions to get rid of Fortnite addiction.

But experts fear many children are at risk of developing mental health problems as a result of over-exposure to violent and addictive video games. Bad things can really happen, proven by a nine-year-old girl from United Kingdom who ended up in rehab for her Fortnite addiction.

"I urge every parent out there to know what this game can do, how it sucks young children in and could ruin lives", the girl's mother said.

The game's Battle Royale mode is especially popular and sees 100 players fighting it out to the death in a last man standing contest.

Recent cases highlighted the game's "addictive nature" and "the extent to which it quickly impacts behaviour", he added.
