Intelligence Report Says Trump 'Retreated' From North Korea Deal

'Antsy and bored' Trump nearly left Kim summit in peril, report says Trump says he wants Americans to treat him like North Koreans treat dictator Kim Jong Un

Trump, who has hailed his meeting with Kim on Tuesday as a success that removed the North Korean nuclear threat, told reporters later that he had given Kim a phone number to allow him to reach him directly.

"You are about to see something on the Fox News that has never happened, we believe, in the history of White House reporting", reporter Steve Doocy said live on air.

"I want my people to do the same", Trump said, before joking about the fate of several North Korean generals.

Trump spoke to Fox & Friends this week about his meeting with Kim Jong Un and had only the highest of praise.

U.S. Defense Secretary Mattis said Trump's summit with Kim, the first between a sitting U.S. president and a North Korean leader, showed that the past did not have to define the future, but that the U.S. military remained vigilant. "I would have him", Trump said. In return, Mr. Trump agreed to stop the ongoing joint military exercises with political ally South Korea and establish diplomatic relations with North Korea.

While Kim's end of the bargain (a commitment to denuclearization) was vague, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday that the US hopes to achieve "major" nuclear disarmament within 2.5 years.

But Trump seems keen to claim a quick diplomatic victory, and the halt to U.S. military exercises on the peninsula is a significant concession to both Pyongyang and Washington's rival China. "I call them war games", he said.

"Making unnecessary and unreciprocated concessions is not in our interests - and it is a bad negotiating tactic", Republican Senator John McCain said. "I can now call him", he said. "I came in, that was what I inherited".

Trump indicated a White House visit by Kim was possible: "Hey he's the head of a country", Trump said. "Why aren't we being reimbursed?" he demanded, returning to his long-standing claim that United States allies like South Korea should repay the costs of their defense. Don't let anyone think anything different. He added that he "hit it off" with Kim and that the two had "good chemistry". "The people of Asia feel safe, and right now the people from all over the world feel much safer than the days before I was president", Trump says in the video. He - I've been talking about this for a long time now, and I feel like it's extreme to keep repeating it, but also, what we need to hear. Actually, I think sarcasm is one thing reporters do understand.
