Former US President George HW Bush turns 94

Former President George H.W. Bush celebrated a record-setting birthday Tuesday, becoming the first USA president to reach 94 years of age.

Bush, who has been hospitalized multiple times in the past year for a variety of health issues, was born June 12, 1924.

"As many of you know, for years I have said the three most important things in life are faith, family and friends".

The elder Bush, who served as president from 1989 to 1993, is spending the summer at his family compound in Kennebunkport.

A Bryan bakery created a unique masterpiece for the Bush Birthday Celebration and Tribute Tuesday at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

Former President Jimmy Carter will reach the milestone in October.

Another son, Neil Bush, called on people in a newspaper opinion piece to volunteer and "to become a point of light".

He became the first-ever former USA president to reach the age of 94.
