England smash world record ODI score against Australia

England break plethora of ODI records England's cricketers set one-day record against Australia

Chasing the mammoth total was never going to be easy and the feat proved too much for Australia who were bowled out for 239 to slump to their biggest ever margin of defeat - usurping a 206-run loss to New Zealand in Adelaide 32 years ago. Once again it was spin that did the damage to Australia with England tweaker Adil Rashid taking 4-47 and Moeen Ali 3-28.

In posting a final total of 481, England surged beyond the previous record they had set of 444 for three against Pakistan at the same venue two years ago.

Eoin Morgan, England's ODI captain, became the country's highest run-scorer in this format during a 21-ball fifty -the fastest by any England batsman in terms of balls faced - on his way to 67.

Eoin Morgan's 50 of 22 balls was also the fastest half century by an Englishman.

Sourav Ganguly, former Indian captain, has expressed his concern over the health of the game cricket after England posted an ODI record total of 481/6 against Australia on Tuesday.

However, runs dried up in the final four overs as England failed to score a single boundary.

However, the decision was reviewed and replays surprisingly showed the ball was missing the top of the stumps.

But the home batsmen were rarely troubled on a road of a wicket that saw AJ Tye go for wicketless for 100 runs from nine overs with Jhye Richardson boasting the best figures of 3-92.

Bairstow smashed his fourth ODI century in 2018 and Hales took England past their old record with a six, the 21st of the innings.

The touring Aussies won the toss in Nottingham but that was about as good as it got for Tim Paine's side as Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy put them to the sword.

Bairstow finally departed for a stunning 139 off just 91 balls as he was caught in the deep off the bowling of spinner Ashton Agar.
