Don’t get pregnant for World Cup guests, MP warns Russian women

Russian women should refrain from sleeping with visiting World Cup fans so as to avoid becoming single mothers with mixed-race children, a lawmaker who heads the parliament's family committee said Wednesday.

Tamara Pletnyova, head of the family, women and children's affairs committee, argued that even if these relationships led to marriage, women or their children would inevitably be taken overseas by the man.

"These children will later suffer and have suffered in the Soviet era", Pletnyova said, claiming that a similar trend occurred after the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. "They are abandoned, and that's it, they stay here with mum".

"We should be giving birth to our own children".

The much awaited World cup will kick off Thursday with host country Russian Federation taking on Saudi Arabia at the 81 thousand capacities Luzhniki Stadium.

Children who are mixed-race are likely to be brought up in one-parent families, she warned.

"These children suffer and have suffered, even since Soviet times", she told Govorit Moskva. "I am no nationalist but nevertheless".

She also suggested that should a Russian woman get pregnant, it would be better if the father of the child was "of the same race".

"Even if they marry, they move her overseas, then she does not know how [to return] from there", Pletnyova, who is known for her conservative remarks, told the Govorit Moskva (Moscow Speaks) radio station on Wednesday. "Then they come to me at the committee and cry that the child was taken away, removed, and so forth", Pletnyova said.

"I would like to see people in our country to get married for love".

Unsurprisingly this lawmaker has made similarly prudish comments before, once criticizing the crop top of a local journalist. "It doesn't matter what nationality they are (as long as) they are Russian citizens", Pletnyova said.

As millions are expected to visit Russian Federation for the World Cup, one politician is warning women against being too friendly.

Pletneva previously criticised the #MeToo campaign against sexual harassment, tentatively spreading in Russian Federation. Why should we copy everything?
