President Donald Trump is still angry at Justin Trudeau for a perceived slight during a speech by the Canadian Prime Minister following the G-7 meeting.

"My job was to send a signal of strength", Navarro said Tuesday at a Wall Street Journal event. "I own that, that was my mistake, those were my words".

The president's staff then blasted Trudeau on Sunday with economic advisor Larry Kudlow accusing Canada of stabbing the U.S.in the back.

US President Donald Trump shakes hands with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a meeting at the G-7 summit.

Among the many topics the president addressed with reporters afterward was his recent Twitter campaign against Trudeau, whom he has called "dishonest" and "weak". Dems lack heir apparent this time MORE and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, asking: "Trudeau or Trump?"

"When it comes to Trump tweets there's a discount premium to them", said Carleton University professor and foreign policy expert Fen Hampson who advises Trudeau to "hunker down, say nothing, not rise to the bait".

Speaking for the first time about the acrimonious conclusion of the Group of Seven meeting in Quebec over the weekend, Trump said he felt Trudeau had mischaracterized the US position in a press conference after the summit.

On 1 June, the United States imposed a 25% tariff for steel and 10% for aluminium on imports from the European Union (EU), Canada, and Mexico. He didn't specify what he considered false about Trudeau's statements.

"He's giving a news conference about how he will not be pushed around by the United States".

Republican author Van Hipp, the One Lucky Guy for the day on Outnumbered, agreed that Trump should not have attended the G7 with the North Korean summit looming. Trudeau had engaged in "bad-faith diplomacy", Navarro maintained.

Navarro said Trump "did the courtesy to Justin Trudeau to travel up to Quebec for that summit".

"There are always irritants in relationships", Pompeo said, adding that without partners like Canada, "we wouldn't be in this place, we wouldn't have this diplomatic opportunity" with the North.

His anger appears to have been sparked by a news conference Mr Trudeau gave after the summit, in which he described as "insulting" the way the United States cited national security as a reason for the tariffs.

Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland, who will be in Washington on Wednesday and Thursday, is hoping to meet with USA trade czar Robert Lighthizer to resume discussions on modernizing the North American Free Trade Agreement. As he left the meeting, Trump accused other countries - including Canada and the European Union - of taking advantage of the United States with unfair trade rules.

The summit was seen as an opportunity to overcome disagreements on new tariffs imposed by the U.S. on imports. The communique is a final agreement among the countries that details various shared priorities. Trudeau stuck our president in the back. "Politicians can get into disagreements and they can have heated disputes but you have to think about where does this go, how bad could it get and the disputes are over a really, really small share of GDP".
