A Bay Area woman was gored by a bison during a visit to Yellowstone National Park, the fourth animal attack in the park in just over a month and the third this week.

In early May, 72-year-old Virginia Junk of Boise, Idaho, was rammed by a bison and pushed off a trail.

Park officials say that Hancock, 59, was gored when a crowd came within 10 yards of the animal on a boardwalk at Found Paint Pot in the Lower Geyser Basin, KBZK reports.

"When it crossed the boardwalk, the bison became agitated and charged the crowd, goring Hancock", the news release said.

Park officials said that, at one point, people in the group were closer than 15ft from the bison. She was transported by paramedic ambulance to the Big Sky Medical Center in Big Sky, Montana, reportedly in "good" condition.

"It's very common for cow elk to aggressively defend newborn calves and hide them near buildings and cars", the Park Service said.

The latest attack at Yellowstone comes days after two people were attacked by elks in separate incidents. It butted her in the thigh and slightly injured the woman.

This is also the second time a park visitor has been injured by a bison this year.

"Animals in Yellowstone are wild and unpredictable, no matter how calm they appear to be", officials wrote.

Park officials instructed visitors to give animals space, even near trails, boardwalks, parking lots and other developed areas. Rangers advise staying at least 25 yards away from animals like bison and elk, the park said.
