Before pressing the button, Howie raved about how Courtney's skills are "out of this era" before calling her the next Janis Joplin.

The difference in 13-year-old Courtney Haldwin when she is singing from her everyday self has to be seen to be believed.

Launching into Otis Redding's 'Hard to Handle', Courtney left the judges and everyone in the crowd completely speechless - jaws basically dropped everywhere.

When British teen Courtney Hadwin stepped onto the stage to audition on America's Got Talent, no one could have expected what happened next.

This wasn't Courtney's first time performing on television.

For the rest of the song the audience are on their feet, as she belts out the 1968 song - and the performance finishes with a standing ovation from everyone in the auditorium. "You're like this shy little thing when you first came out. And then you sing, and you're like a lion", Cowell marveled.

"Genuinely incredible", said Simon. The judge marveled, "You are not from this era".

Mandel went on to recount the story of Clive Davis discovering Janice Joplin at the Monterey Pop Festival, and signing her to a contract that went on to launch her into superstardom. "I'm Howie Mandel. The only thing I can do for you, young lady, is give you..." Mandel says as he strikes the buzzer on the judges' desk. I was a great feel-good moment for everyone, especially Courtney, who now goes straight to the live shows.America's Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.

She tweeted her thanks Tuesday night.

And the young talent is no stranger to the limelight of TV, having already stared in the ITV's The Voice Kids previous year.
